chicken pot pie!

i love eating... i don't mind cooking... i hate deciding what to make, and when i say hate i mean hate. so any one dish meal, with ingredients i usually have in the pantry, that takes barely any prep time and less than 30 minute cook time is ideal... to say the least! chicken pot pie is a staple in our house (until about three months ago when apparently i cooked it so much we turned it to chickens- its just so easy...) but its been long enough and i was able to put it back in the rotation tonight. it reminded me just how good and simple it is. perfect for any mom on the go- or anyone not wanting to make a decision...

ingredients:
-1 rotisserie chicken (or 4 chicken breast cooked) shredded
-half stick butter
-1 cup milk
-1 and 1/2 cup chicken broth
-1/3 cup flour
-salt and pepper to taste
-1 can peas
-1 can green beans
-1 cup cooked carrots sliced
-any other veggies you like ....
-2 pie crusts

directions:
-preheat oven according to directions on pie crust package
-in a 2 quart sauce pan melt butter, once melted add flour {making a "blond" roux}
-add in milk, broth, salt and pepper {allow to cook- stirring frequently- until thick}
-add in veggies and chicken {take off heat}
-spoon mixture into crust lined pie dish, cover with remaining pie crust
-bake according to package {usually around 400 for about 20-30 minutes}
-let stand 5 minutes before serving... this with save many taste buds from burning off.. we learn this the hard way... every time...
* its even better the next day! so don't be afraid to make this the day before. follow all directions, but don't bake until ready to serve.

{...usually i eat a couple spoonfulls here... quality check}

wtf trends... leopard

Saturday, August 27, 2011
those who know me well, know that i love leopard print... ok i beyond love leopard... if it was socially acceptable i would probably wear a little splash of ii with every outfit. it takes the simplest of outfits and just gives it that something extra. plus, the best thing is that it transcends seasons, styles and budgets. BUT if your not exactly sure how to mix it in or for those of you who think leopard is only meant to be worn in the wee hours of the morning on the corner of santa monica and highland then here are some ways that even YOU can fit it in to the rotation...

white stripes

{finished product}

1. take everything off walls, patch holes... and if your ones of "those" then you can tape the floor, ceiling, windows, cover all the furniture, etc... i don't have the patience...
2. paint all walls your base color.
3.measure and tape. ( i did 10 inches ) remember to place tape outside the area to be painted... also if something seems off it probably is... don't just keep going ( not that i did that... ) but trust me it will save lots of time if you figure it out right away.
4. paint the stripes with your other color .. or same color different sheen or wall paper... whatever the options are endless.

{ my lil painter }

if i can do it you can do it... enough said...

also its not pictured here, but we turned the daybed around "backwards" and used it as a transition bed from crib to big girl bed...

i am embarrassed to say that the before picture was my top drawer after only living in our new home for 2 months.... i cant even tell you how much time i spent digging for bobby pins! this drawer holds everything that i use on a regular basis so something had to change... after going to the farmers market {and eating a huge fruit salad} i took a note from real simple and their new uses for old things. these berry baskets are the perfect size to help me contain my overflow of beauty products.

ps.
i like to cut stripes of ribbon or paper and secure about
10 bobby pins to it. that way they are easy to find in a
drawer and you can just toss a strip in your bag on the go,
saving precious minutes...
{its not easy taming your hair while taming your child...}

when your at make up counter and they give you samples of the
products you use, instead of throwing them away or getting lost in the bottom of a basket, put them all in a small container. that
way when you decide to jet off to palm springs for the weekend you can just thrown this in your bag knowing you'll have all the
usual suspects and more space for all 4 pairs of shoes!

summer scents

Wednesday, August 3, 2011
there is nothing better than the smell of the beach and flowers in the summer, well unless you smell like them! here are a few of my favorite summer scents (or in our case year round scents out here in cali!)i am definitely an "oil" girl but every now and then ill spritz on a perfume, so there is a variety of both. i personally own all of these so i promise even if your stuck at work- stick a bowl of water under your desk, put your tootsies in it, roll on one of these scents, close your eyes and you'll immediately be laying on the shore with a mojito feeling that sweet sting of the sun and salt.
{pikaki lei fragrance oil - you can pick this up at whole foods!}
{hawaiian song oil coco-mango flavor : i got this at the abc store in waikiki... im running low - guess i'll have to go back...)
{cb secret history: at the beach 1966 - all of their scents are unique and amazing... you have to smell burning leaves!}
