 need a quick and easy halloween costume? make this cute little indian in about 10 minutes for you or your little one!

what you need:
feathers, beads, aztec ribbon, leather straps, glue gun, scissors

{i got everything here from joann's}

{start gluing the feathers in bunches to the back of ribbon}

{or one little bunch on the side/ back}

 {glue the feathers to the end, then slide beads down to secure}

 {tassels with feather}

{tassels with beads only}

while your at joann's grab some brown suede fabric, cut a hole in the top for your head {i cut an extra large hole and put an arm through it too to make the top one shoulder}, braid more of the leather straps long enough for a belt, grab your uggs and all of your stone-silver-gold-chunky jewelry add a little warrior paint... and voila! i haven't finished this part yet so i'll show some pics of our santa fe halloween adventures later this weekend!

oh the webs we weave...

Thursday, October 27, 2011
want some cuter halloween spider webs then just the usual "bag'o'web"? while spending hours on pinterest i came across this post for a doily spider web which inspired me to make one on my own. of course she used a much cuter doily than i could find i the local santa fe micheals and without my usual tools i have at home,  i took a note and then came up with my own little twists, which includes a nod to the native american culture i'm loving while spending time in new mexico. all you need to get started is a doily, embroidery hoop, black yarn, and a spider {which of course i forgot so mine are made out of left over yarn scraps} ps since im in a hotel i couldn't really hang any of them so don't mind the fact that they are just leaned again the couch/ hung on the light switch.

now start spinning!
{simple}

 {weaved the yarn around hoop/through holes}

{cut doily and wrapped it around hoop}

{dream catcher -use the same steps from above, only continue into the center, then string a piece of yarn in concentric circles, dangled a few spiders , add a few feathers}

mercury rising...

Monday, October 24, 2011

let me tell you i had a mild heart attack the other day {and i'm pretty sure i induced one on the woman next to me in that quiet isle at joann's fabrics} when i spotted krypton's mirror glass spray paint. the man and i have literally tried everything under the sun to get that mercury/ "decaying mirror" effect and let's just say... me and silver leafing - not friends. i am a huge fan of these anthropologie capri blue mercury candlesbut sometimes i want to put my own candle in them or i want them larger or a different shape... let's just say it - a girl need options! so here is my first attempt with this new discovery. keep in mind i haven't perfected it and i did it really quick the night before we left town, so check back as i'm sure i will be playing around with it as soon as i get back home.

what you need:
any type of glass jar
krylon mirror glass spray paint
vinegar
a towel

directions:
i did two different processes actually, although in the pictures you can't really tell. so these instructions can just kind of lead you in the right direction, but then play around and see what you like best! also i didn't have any harsh chemicals on hand that's why i used vinegar so if you try other things i would love to see/ hear what worked for you!!

first clean and completely dry the glass jar. then go outside to spray {the smell of this paint is pretty toxic.}
i did about 4 light coats on the INSIDE of each jar to start . the paint dries pretty fast so you only have to wait about one minute in between each coat. {make sure you do them pretty thin because it starts to drip easily... although i didn't mind the drips} once all layers are completely dry i took the vinegar, dipped my finger into it and flicked it on the inside. of course you can use a spray bottle but i wanted bigger drops more concentrated instead of an overall spray. let it sit for a minute or so. take your towel {i used a  paper towel so you can just throw it away after} and lightly rub. you can press lightly if you just want to take a tiny bit off or rub in a slightly harder circle {kind of a twisting motion} to get bigger chunks off. be careful because once you start rubbing it starts to come off pretty easily, but it is very forgiving... if you took too much off just spray a couple coats and start over. now you can stop here so the holes are completely see through or you can let that dry and then do one light coat to make the holes a little hazy.

now turn off the lights and grab a glass of wine...

whats for dinner??? chicken salad

Friday, October 21, 2011
ingredients :
rotisserie/ left over chicken- at least 2 breasts
1/2 an apple
grapes
mayo
salt & pepper to taste

directions:
shred all the chicken, dice the apple, cut grapes into fourths {we looooove the grapes so i tend to go grape heavy but usually a good rule to live by would be 1/2 chicken: 1/4 apples: 1/4 grapes} add about a tablespoon or so of mayo {depending on how creamy you like it}, salt & pepper, remember if you are using a rotisserie chicken, or even a chicken you cooked yourself there may be lots of salt already added so make sure and taste before.

{mix it on up}

{all i had was white bread on hand, but REAALLLY  good on a croissant!}

where dreams come true...

Monday, October 17, 2011
we took the little one to disney for the first time this weekend. {have to admit- sort of dreading it} it ended up being amazing! not to crowded, perfect weather, not one meltdown... and even if it was packed and 100 degrees and she cried 60% of the time...
i'd do it all again to see this face...

so hurry! go do everything you been dreading because it's going to be so worth it.

ps what i really wanted to tell you was i did a whole day at disney in these sam edelman sandals... didn't even need the other shoes i brought. i thought for sure i would be out of these in an hour... nope. so comfy. so cute. if you can still find them- you should buy them!
