frosty

Monday, January 30, 2012

two valentine's ago i got the cutest wines glasses from target. so simple. so cute. so sweet. i bought four... now i'm down to two soooo i went on a mission to try and recreate. although i didn't make the exact ones i wanted i ended up going crazy and "frosting" everything insight! so so so easy! all you need is some sort of glass, rust-oleum frosted glass spray paint, painters tape, a whole punch, puffy paint or any other interesting materials you can think of to make a pattern. go outside. grab an old towel and get to painting.

im always looking for little ways to brighten people's day and i've come to learn that sometimes it's the smallest things. so next time you borrow some tupperware or if someone leaves a casserole dish at your house, when you return it fill it with their favorite candied treats or a sweet baked good... i promise it will put a big fat smile on their face...

{ok im going to try and make a reallllllly long story short} a few months back i had heard about this beauty detox by kimberly snyder {its more than a diet, its a way of life} that intrigued me, fast forward i come to find that cam's mom{k} is doing it, well kind of doing it... but basically you cant eat anything good. oh or anything from a cow. at all. no dairy. nothing. ya probably not going to happen in this house.... buuut the diet includes this wonderful drink that has changed my life. the glowing green smoothie. now i never thought i had digestive problems or ever felt really bloated or anything- then i started drinking one of these drinks every morning. literally changed my life! i feel like a completely different person... and i can even tell a difference in my skin! so i thought maybe i'll take on a few thing she suggests. blah blah blah long story short come to find out a sweet sweet friend of mine {❤ laura- who just started an amazing blog with her sister called mystics+mint, where she did her first post about the amazingness that is the green smoothie!} was doing the diet and had a whole bunch of recipes for me. now i'm definitely am not a "dieter" but after noticing such a change in the way i felt i'm definitely down with making changes in a healthier direction... as long as i don't sacrifice too much taste. so that is where this amazing recipe comes in! as i have said before we eat a lot of mexican in this house and i loooove me some queso but its just so so horrible for you that i never make it- but laura shared with me this greatest substitute and we are putting it on everything! {and i must say i made it for a few get togethers we have had the past week and even major meat eaters had no idea it was vegan...} anways i tried to keep it short and sweet but i wanted to give credit where credit is due! thanks laura for making our mexi nights less of a guilty pleasure!!!

1/4 cup raw cashews
2 cups water
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c nutritional yeast
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
3 tbsp corn starch
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/3 c chopped red bell pepper

blend all in a blender {preferably a vitamix}. once all blended up pour into a hot pan. stir constantly until thick. you can eat it like this, or stir in some spicy salsa for more flavor! we literally have been putting this on everything so no need to just limit to mexi! laura recommends over baked potatoes, broccoli, pasta, burritos...anything you want... no judgement... now go make it and slather it on everything without feeling the least bit guilty!

 {dont be scared when it looks like this}

{mmmm queso}

{my glowing green smoothie}

*ps don't forget to go stop over at mystics+mint !!!

*pps if you are interested in the beauty detox definitely click the link above- but make sure you read everything she says about blenders because it does make a huggggeeee difference....

treasure chest

this past weekend we took on potty training... which ended up being a huge success. HUGE! but while we were stuck in the house for three days straight i tackled a few projects i have been procrastinating on. one being painting everleigh's toy box. this toy box has gotten so beaten up over the past two years with paint and crayons and markers i just decided to paint it with some chalkboard paint {so she can draw till her hearts content} and then rhinestoned the inside, instantly turing it from a toy box to a treasure chest that sparks every imagination chord in this tiny little body.

{toy box, paint, brushes and little hands}

{slide fun in between coats}

{rhinestone hell... honestly took so long. sooo long.}

{filled with all of her dress up clothes}

{as if she doesn't know}

 bras!
one of my favorite ways to spice up any out fit is with a cute bra underneath. i mean why have off the  shoulder tees, sheer dresses and loose tanks if your just gonna wear a boring bra underneath????

this past week was a really good friend of mine's birthday {❤ b} i never know what  gift to get people and i just end up in anthropologie getting them something i want for myself {and yes i usually buy two ...} so this year i am determined to really put more thought into my gift giving... after all isn't that what counts??? the birthday girl is a fabulous baker and one of the most vibrant people i have ever known. so i put those two things together and ended up with  baking and colors!!!! i went to a local baking store {ny cakes west} and made her a "baked with love" box. knowing that she probably has all the basic tools i loaded up on fun funky patterns and unique little pieces to make her baked goods that much more special. when putting it together i repackaged everything in little spice jars {for the sprinkles} or clear bags for the other random items. lastly i wrapped everything up in fabric- so easy! no need for tape or scissors and it can be reused!!!
{watch how it did it on the video tutorial below!}

being from new orleans i was born to love beignets- i have since passed this love on to my fiance. {after our last trip there he literally went out and bought a deep fryer so i would make them at home with minimal complaints} anyways so the other night we are at dinner with his sister and her family {jkl ❤  you} and the restaurant apparently used to make them but don't anymore... long story short its one am and we're making beignets. of course i would love to say i made them from scratch buuuut our local world market carries cafe du monde mix and i just happened to have a box on hand! i highly recommend {although its not the same as being there its pretty close......} now i know they are supposed to be square shape but it was one am and these were made with love.

 {one of my new rolling pins lkce}

ps make sure you have a lot of this on hand.... turns out one small bottle is not enough...
 oh and if you dont have a deep fryer a candy thermometer is helpful to make sure you get the oil temp right or try one of these oil temp checker tricks:
• cut a one inch square of bread and drop it into the oil, if it takes 60 seconds to brown the oil is 365.
• if you drop one kernel of pop corn in the oil, when it pops the oil is about 350 - 360
