honesty is the best policy

Tuesday, February 28, 2012
i'm sure most of you may have heard of the honest company by now, but for those of you who haven't here it is! started a few months ago by jessica alba, it is a one stop shop for your basic baby needs! everything here is chemical free and natural.... plus super cute diaper designs! and the best part??? its delivered to your house! everything sounds great right? well i'm gonna be honest... i haven't tried it yet but i would love to hear if you have... i am a tried and true huggies girl {even though we are diaper free! still cant get over it ...} i also still wash everything in dreft. i loooove the smell... it makes my almost three year old... eeek!.. still smell like a baby. {which i must admit makes my heart flutter a little bit every time i get a whiff} so i would love to know what you think ... because ever {hopefully} wont be an only child for long!

ps this would be a great gift for an expecting mommy to be! pay for a month or two or however much you'd like but make sure and give the mommy info on the company and how long you've paid so she can continue if she falls in loooove.

pillow talk

Thursday, February 23, 2012
we have so many throw pillows in this house its a little ridiculous... i sometimes want to "throw" them out, but instead i've decided to just revamp. here are two ways i've taken a scarf and a pillow {plus a little ribbon} and spiced up our pillow situation... it's a super easy update that can literally be changed daily-if your that kinda girl.

take a scarf. fold in half. repeat until you have a manageable rectangle of your choice. fasten a ribbon around the middle and tie around a pillow.

let me just warn you before you watch this tutorial... if you follow this blog you know my little one has been sick and the man has been out of town. so when attempting this post i could not find a tripod and every contraption i set up fell apart- so i literally shot this video holding my phone in my mouth, i couldn't look down but i could see out of my peripheral!!! so pardon the horrendous video buuuut needless to say if i could do this basically blind with my phone in my mouth, you can do this!

video

ps this was the exact song i was listening to while making this. ray lamontange.... if you don't know him - you should.
pps i promise to upload a better video once i have an extra pair of hands around....

banana bread bake off

Monday, February 20, 2012

ever since the green drink{here}changed my life we have been trying to make healthier choices in the eating department. banana bread is one of my favorites that i figured would never translate so i decided to have a banana bread bake off! the first recipe i got from my step-mom { j}, the extreme banana nut bread... it is yuuummmmmy and delicious and you should bake it for your friends, family and neighbors. right now. the second recipe i got from themusingsofahousewife.com it is yummmmmy and delicious and you should bake it for your friends, family and neighbors. right now.  ill let you be the judge but we really could not tell the difference between the two and actually my sis and bro in law {kj} liked the healthier-gluten free version better!!!{although we couldnt figure out why... such a close call!} since the little one came down with croup this weekend {thanks cadence...} we figured what a better time to stay in and bake a few loaves of bread. here are the two recipes... if you bake them let me know what you think!!!

{can you tell the difference?}

extreme banana but bread
ingredients:
2 cups all putpous flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup butter
2 cups white sugar
2 cups {4-5} ripe bananas
4 eggs, beaten
1 cup chopped walnuts

directions:
preheat oven to 350 degrees f and grease two loaf pans. sift flour, salt and baking soda into a large bowl. in a separate bowl, mix together the butter and sugar until smooth. stir in the bananas, eggs and walnuts until well blended. pour wet mixture into dry mixture, stirring just until blended. divide evenly. bake for 60-70 minutes until a knife inserted into the crown of loaf comes out clean. let loaves cool or at  least 5 minutes, the turn out onto a cooling rack. cool completely. wrap in foil to keep in moisture.

best {ever} gluten free banana bread
ingredients:
4 eggs
4 or 5 ripe bananas, mashed
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp real vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups brown rice flour
1/2 cup sorghum flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup melted coconut oil

directions:
preheat oven to 350. in a mixing bowl, beat eggs lightly. add mashed bananas, sugar, applesauce and vanilla. mix thoroughly. meanwhile, melt coconut oil gently on stovetop. add flours, salt and baking soda to wet mixture. mix until all ingredients are moist. fold in melted coconut oil, mixing just until it is blended in. divide evenly. bake for 45 minutes or until bread is no longer we in the middle. insert a knife or touch test to gauge. remove from pans after about 10 minutes, cool on wire racks. wrap in foil to hold in moisture.

ps take that second loaf {because we know you don't need it} and give it to someone you love. wrap it in foil, then in a cute dish towel and don't forget to jot down the recipe. check out my fabric wrapping tutorial here.

pps how cute is she... croup and all..

ppps incase your wondering the top one is the extreme banana bread and the bottom in the gluten free

bb creams

Thursday, February 16, 2012
you may or may not have heard of the latest asian beauty import but they are hitting the shelves and just as quickly flying off. these beauty balms {or blemish balms} were originally created by dermatologist to help the healing process for laser treatment patients with their amazing skin regenerating properties and soothing abilities. they are sort of an all-in-one product {very enticing for gals on the go) and come in a variety of different formulations and qualities. most are light weight, provide moisture, primer, concealer and treat skin. some are said to have skin whitening or brightening properties, anti-acne or anti-wrinkle, even out skin tone, and lighten blemish scars. bb creams can be used like a primer under foundation or if tinted may replace foundation and some newer ones are adding sun block, pore minimization and skin refining. basically this product could become your next {b}bff saving you time and money... i have yet to try different brands but if you search online there are ample comparisons and reviews.
if you have tried any of these leave a comment!
{the brands above in the picture are dr.jart+, mac, stila, boscia, clinique, the face shop, estee lauder, skin79}

you can never have too many....

Sunday, February 12, 2012

 i firmly believe that when you have children you shouldn't sacrifice your personal style, however i know that its just not practical to chase after little ones on the playground in sky high heels or fold laundry with a baby in the bjorn in a body con dress. So for those days where your at home playing with the kids and taking care of the house let's actually get out of the high school sweats and husbands old concert tshirt and into something just as comfy but a little more easy on the eyes. all these loungewear pants are still flexible but you just might feel like you actually got dressed today...

stamp of approval

home made stamps! easier than i thought but definitely not the easiest thing in the world. the best part is they dont have to be perfect, a little wonkyness adds to the whole "home-made" effect. all you need is some stamp rubber, a stamp carver {if your really talented you could just use a razor blade} and a pencil. {here is a link for the goods} so free hand {get the littles involved- everleigh drew the sweet smiley face you see} or get to transferring, either way you need to make yourself a stamp asap!

{shavings}

ps these would make any valentine extra extra special....
pps dont forget they end up reverse of what you see....
