make new friends but....

Thursday, March 29, 2012

to be honest i have a lot of "friends" but very few true friends, and most of them live a car trip {or in a few cases plane trip} away from me. until this past week!!! and  i woke up today to  realize that one of my bestest friends in the whole world {besides the one laying next to me} went from living 55 miles from me, to living 14.1 miles ... so  happy! now we can have more times like these...

and these....

oh and these...
the beautiful thing about true friends is that they can grow separately without growing apart and then hopefully your home base paths will cross again and you can pick up right where you left off.
here's to those "right where we left off" friendships... {❤ you a}
help us grow, be our best friend and go like us on facebook... and then tell your best friend about ww

{spaghetti} squash it

Friday, March 23, 2012
a few years ago i had my first spaghetti squash experience. loved it. then some how totally forgot about what an amazing vegetable this is! fast forward a few years, go over to c's sister's house { jkl} and they had made spaghetti  for us... but instead of noodles they used spaghetti squash. oh so good!!!!!! even the little one couldn't tell the difference {although i did do half noodles half squash} but this is an easy switch that still gives you that spaghetti craving your having without the carb guilt. next time your at the store grab a few. preheat oven to 350 f. cut squash in half , sprinkle with salt and peper. bake cut side down for about 30-40 minutes. once baked run a fork through. voila!

blinded by the bright

Wednesday, March 21, 2012
i was looking through pictures the other day and i came across pictures from ever's first room {pardon the crummy phone pics} and although i'm not sad we're not in this house anymore, looking at these pictures just made me realize how fast everything is going by... yes the little chunky in the crib is going to be three soon... sad face. back to the room. so i will be the first to admit i went a little overboard on the color with this room but these white walls were just screaming for color! {i promise it wasn't as obnoxious in person... ok maybe a little but in a good way}  besides the obvious change we also took out all the built-ins {im not really a built-in kinda girl} and replaced the closet doors with curtains. i really wish i would have taken better pictures of the room, but i think you get the jist. compared to the darker colored decor in the rest of the house, this room beamed from above...but i, i mean everleigh, loved it so thats all that mattered....

 ps someone got a big girl bed last weekend.... in her own words- "so cozy..."

crochet candle

Thursday, March 15, 2012

i have been obsessing over anything crocheted lately and have been working on a few things for the little one's birthday {which i will be showing you later} not to mention all the amazing crocheted clothing coming out for spring!!! so not to give any future posts away but i have lots of doilies lying around right now, and have been "doilying" everything... i'm sure c feels like he's living with a granny but guess what? i don't care... love them! anways we love candles in this house. love love candles, but i literally have had no time to run to either of my favorite candle spots so i picked up a few from target to tide us over. now i know the designer at the candle companies mean well...  but no matter what they do, the big label just isn't cute. bless their hearts. so i'm always looking for cute ways to disguise , insert the doily. inspired by vintage macrame plant holders, here is a cute alternative to ugly labels.

{materials: doily, candle, and string}

ps would look just as cute around a planter or anything else you need to jazz up...

vegas

Monday, March 12, 2012
we have been abnormally busy with c working, new dance class starting and lots of family in town.  i haven't been able to spend much time on the computer, so while i spend these next couple days playing catch up i though i'd give you a little laugh.... while my parents were in town they gladly watched the little one for us so we could sneak off to see daniel tosh perform in vegas this weekend. {thanks sm}even though we have never really been "vegas" people, we've actually never been to vegas together, we had a blast. if you're a parent you know how easy it is to kinda get lost in the kids from day to day, so it was really nice stay up till 5:30 am at a black jack table with a bottle of vodka instead of a changing table with a bottle of milk... needless to say we laughed our asses off!  here is an old clip from one of tosh's tours.... you should definitely go see him live if he's coming to your town, or youtube some of his stand up and definitely watch tosh.0 on comedy central.... {warning.. he's definitely not pc so if you are easily offended this might not be up your ally.....xo}

poppy seed ham sammies

Thursday, March 8, 2012

we have a running joke in this family about what a poor cook cam's mom is... { you k} and if you have read any of my other recipe posts i'm sure i have poked fun at her a few times. and the apple doesn't fall from the tree... cam's sister isn't much better {❤ you k} so our rule is they think of the meal and ill cook it. needless to say i haven't gotten too many recipes from that side of the family. however this is one exception that must be shared! poppy seed ham sammies!!! im sure if you are on pinterest you have seen a version of this recipe floating around but its about time the best one is put out there. they have been eating these for years and ever since my first bite a few christmas' ago they have become a staple in our house! they are perfect for everything from baby showers to dinner parties. i will even make them so we can eat them throughout the week for lunch. in the end, this recipe makes up for the one too many chicken with cream of mushroom soup dinners we've made in this family... love you guys.
poppy seed ham sammies

1 1/2 pound shaved ham {literally falling into pieces}
3/4 pound sliced swiss cheese  {each piece cut into 4ths}
2 packs hawaiian sweet rolls {or any dinner rolls}
2 sticks butter
1 tablespoon dijon mustard
2 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
1/2 cup brown sugar.

cut dinner rolls in half. build sandwiches in a baking dish. bottom of roll, little pile of ham, slice of swiss, top of roll... you get the gist.  in a sauce pan melt butter. add mustard, worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds and brown sugar. cook over medium low heat until well combined and sugar is all melted. pour sauce over sandwiches. cover with foil. refrigerate over night, or at least a few hour. {if i need them quickly ill sometimes double the sauce since its not going to have as much soaking time... but they are much better when you let them chill for a while.} bake at 350 degrees f for about 20 min or until cheese is melted and center sammies are hot. if tops start to burn cover with foil and continue baking.

ps they really aren't that bad of cooks. i just give them are hard time. i have gotten quite a few recipes from them which i'm sure i will be sharing with you...
